Nikolai Gogol's "The Inspector General," Feb. 18-27
PITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama will present an adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's "The Inspector General" Feb. 18-27 in the Philip Chosky Theatre. Michael Chemers, assistant professor of dramatic literature in the School of Drama, wrote this adaptation, which will be directed by Associate Teaching Professor of Directing Jed Allen Harris. Performances are at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with an additional matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Saturdays. A satirical comedy, "The Inspector General" is a hilarious indictment of political corruption as relevant today as it was in 1836. When a penniless drifter is mistaken for a government ethics lawyer, the leaders of an American Rust Belt town inveigle him into a hilarious conspiracy of lies that unintentionally reveals a profound truth about political power. Chemers' adaptation brings out some comical and terrifying local references of Pittsburgh politics, much like Gogol once observed about Tsarist Russia. Ticket prices begin at $23 for adults, $14 for senior citizens and $10 for students with valid Carnegie Mellon identification. For complete ticket prices, call the School of Drama Box Office at 412-268-2407 or visit www.drama.cmu.edu.

Review: Government Inspector, Young Vic
That is how visionary director Richard Jones sees the Russian town in Nikolai Gogol's Government Inspector. Not as a grey, provincial sinkhole of petty jealousies (although it is that as well) but as an Alice in Wonderland tumbling circus of increasing
